Sea Life centre in save sharks appeal
Wednesday November 07 2012
THE National Sea Life Aquarium in Bray has called on the Government to protect native Irish basking sharks.
Sea Life launched an online petition during Shark Week to help protect ‘a misunderstood species’.
Sea Life celebrated Shark Week with a series of events, exhibitions and activities and as part of its education and conservation programme.
It is calling on the government to protect our native basking shark population in the same way the sharks are protected in UK territorial waters.
Pat Ó Súilleabháin, Centre Director at SEA LIFE said ‘sharks have suffered an unwarranted reputation as being the ‘ terrorists of the sea’.
We are running a programme of activities which will help dispel these myths
Wicklow County Tourism have recently launched a new version of the very popular visitwicklow.ie website.
This site was developed by Incloud.ie, a new start-up company based in Bray.
Easier to use and maintain, the new website offers a better and more efficient browsing experience to visitors planning a holiday to Wicklow, or locals looking for something to see or do.
As almost a quarter of all traffic to Wicklow County Tourism’s website comes from a mobile device, this website was designed to be fully mobile friendly. This feature is invaluable as the use of mobile devices is continuously increasing.
Other enhancements include integrated Google translator, an extensive and dynamic calendar of events, integrated social media, and extensive gallery of images and videos.
There is also a greater focus on the Towns and Villages of Co. Wicklow – increased browsing capacity allows users to discover or in many cases rediscover what is on their doorstep.
Each page now has links to all the activities, dining, attractions etc available in any given place making it much easier to plan a visit to the Garden County.
The Calendar of Events, one of the main features on the home page, is updated regularly and has dedicated categories such as Christmas, Traditional Music and Outdoor Activities.
The Calendar is dynamic and means that members of Wicklow County Tourism will always have another platform to advertise their upcoming events and visitors have easy access to all that is happening locally.
“The technology developed by incloud.ie has given us a fabulous tool that makes our website more user friendly and much easier to maintain and update”, says Fred Verdier, Tourism Development Officer at Wicklow County Tourism.
“ The various new functions introduced in this site are breaking boundaries as far as local tourism websites are concerned. For example, I couldn’t find any other tourism website in Ireland that is mobile friendly.”
Tom Fortune, Chairman of Wicklow Tourism adds: “This launch is not the completion of this project, but very much the beginning. There is still a lot of work to be done to enhance and increase the information available on this site. Our platform is very much open to our members, local communities and organisations in Wicklow to make sure this tool is the best available.
To strengthen local exposure, Wicklow County Tourism is planning an extensive promotional print campaign of posters, stickers and flyers, with dedicated QR Codes to entice visitors and locals to “connect” with their Smartphones.
A series of prints will be dedicated to a Town or Village and displayed in various areas around Wicklow where visitors can access a variety of local related information such as attractions, activities, dining and shopping options or special offers. The clever use of interactive maps makes sure that visitors can easily find their way around Wicklow. http://ow.ly/i/18oTU
